Friendship

A friend is like a flower.
Or maybe like a brand-new gate never becomes detached.
A friend is like an owl both pretty and wise.
A friend’s heart is like a hug full of love.
There smiles are like rays of sunshine.
They laugh like a hyena until there tummies hurt.
They are shiny as new pins.
Friends are as sweet as sugar.
They are as innocent as a lamb.
Without friends I would be as lonely as a cloud.

Friendship

A friend is like a flower
A rose to be exact
Friends are like a road if hope
And a light to guide us through the night
Friends melt shadows of hearts
Some friends break apart
Friendship is like a circle that never ends
True friends never spread apart
But some friends break hearts

Year 9 English

This term the year 9 English students have been working on the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This is the original teenage story with various themes placed within the novel. Our year 9 classes have reacted well to the novel and they were able to relate to the themes within the text.

We have also been working on various activities involving S.E. Hinton and the 1960’s United States. The students did a Scavenger Hunt in order understand the social setting behind the novel and why S.E. Hinton wrote it. The year 9 students were asked to write a letter to S.E. Hinton and ask her questions about the novel but also suggest a possible sequel for the novel. The students reacted well to this activity and they wrote beautiful engaging letters.

The year 9 students have also watched the Hunt for the Wilderpeople as they will be writing a comparative essay by the end of this term. This essay will allow our students to compare the two texts and they will be able to explore the themes in greater detail.
